Chinese diesel water separator

I just bought a 500fg water separator. It comes with a red plastic ring that is loose in the units fuel bowl. They all have them online but is it left in. No idea what the purpose is? Any help welcome.

That red plastic ring could be the water level indicator, sometimes water in the bowl is really hard to see but probably the red plastic ring floats on the water but sinks in the diesel fuel.

Re: Chinese diesel water separator

How large of a diameter is the ring? Inside the guts of the 500 is a round, red rubber seal that works with a ball as a check valve; it is about 3/4" diameter IIRC. If it is nearer the size of the bowl then the water indicator seems like a good guess.
