Chinese DSEC diesel engines

Just a follow-up on my experiences so far with the DSEC marine diesel engines I bought off eBay. This is a new thread since the old one deteriorated and went off-topic.

I have been making some basic enquiries to the manufacturer about the availability of manuals in PDF format, and also wanted to buy a second gearbox and bell housing to fit to the engine that didn't have one. I also contacted three other sellers of this engine on Alibaba and other similar websites specializing in Chinese products.

The end result is that NONE of them have gotten back to me and I've been waiting over a month. I therefore cannot recommend this particular brand unless you have more patience than I do, or can speak Chinese and call them directly to negotiate.

At AU$812 for two engines and a gearbox I got a bargain admittedly, but the idea of being stuck in a remote location without support makes this a non-repairable product.

Why not have a bell housing fabricated. I had one on a shrimp boat made from a steel plate drilled and then spaced correctly. Most probably in your case aluminum to save weight.

My last option is to reuse the old Parsons box and fabricate an adapter plate, but this wasn't the focus of the message. Just commenting that SDEC aren't much good at support (read: non-existent support) as a warning to others considering going down this path.
