Cleaning A Heat Exchanger

I've got a pair of Yanmar 6LY2A-STP's and am having an overheat problem on my starboard side. I've done the usual raw water check and changed raw water impeller. I am now down to cleaning the heat exchanger. To clean the tubes, I had a great idea using a .22 caliber rifle cleaning brush for the tubes. I will try this today. Any other ideas for trouble-shooting?

Thanks much. Captain Blair Perkins

Take it to a radiator shop. They will "pickle" it in an acid wash that will remove the scale. Re-paint it and your ready to go.

I am about to head south so I took all the heat exchangers off and took them to a rad shop. 3 in total, 50 bucks each and they rebuilt them to new, paint and everything. they let them sit in a acid sollution for a day or so which strips and cleans all debris and then pressure tests them . limmer
