coolant drain point for Cat 3160 (3208)

Is there a drain point on a Cat 3160 that would get most of the coolant out without just removing a hose and have the coolant dump into the bilge? This has been my method previously!

There is a plug on the lower part of the thermostat housing (item 18 on page 8E of my parts book) but that is pretty high up and I suspect there is still considerable coolant in there.

Ideally, I would like to install a valve or petcock so I could simply drain it into a bucket in the future. m My NL generator has this and it is very handy.

The Cat 3160 is the forerunner to the Cat 3208 NA and the two engines are very similar.

Thank you.

Re: coolant drain point for Cat 3160 (3208) - 2nd try!!

Sigh, let me try this again as I have all the heat exchanger parts back and am ready to reassemble but I want to drain the rest of the antifreeze first.

I HAVE the "3160 Marine Engine Service Manual - SN 68P1 & up" just as the poster above recommended that I buy - but I can't find where it says how to drain the coolant. It says several times to "drain the coolant" when performing specific tasks (removing heat exchanger or changing the thermostats etc.)

Here is the manual and one of about a dozen times it says to "drain the coolant". If someone could kindly tell me which page this information is on (or actually how to drain the coolant) I would really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Gregg
