detriot 8v71's

Hi

Sadly, my lovely Chris Craft 55' Constellation sunk last year and after bad insurance advice, did not try to save motors. Lost my insurance fight "fair wear and tear' on hole blown in cast iron muffler and after loosing my home in the Yarloop bush fires, as a retiree, my funds are very limited.
I have found two 8v71's TA's with Allison 2-1 gearboxes which I think height wise, as turbo is down the back of the motors, will fit back where my existing motors lie. I know I will have to chop exhaust to fit from NA's to TA's but as these motors are red in colour, I believe they were assembled in Canada so am wondering if any member out there knows of any other discrepancies which may lie in the difference between the Alpine green and these red motors.
Cheers

Highly unlikely to be significantly different enough ton affect install and use. Take the serial number to any Detroit dealership and they will be able to give you more comprehensive advice than you are likely to receive here.

Possibly the red engines are cross head 2 piece piston engines rather than conventional trunk pistons. Also different injectors and compression ratios. Otherwise very similar. Memory fades after many decades since playing with these engines.

I think I remember a picture you posted a while back of the boat partially submerged.
Broke my heart seeing it. Best of luck with the restoration.

Detroit 2 stroke have a tag on the valve cover that list most of the important parts on that particular engine. The injector part number exhaust castings, and about anything else that would normally be replaced during the life of it. Compare the numbers on your engines to the ones you’re interested in will tell you a lot.

Here's a Detroit serial number pdf I have that shows engine setup. Might be of some use.
