Does anyone know, before I tear my pedestal apart?

I have a Cinkle pedestal on a 1980 Mirage (Cdn) sailboat. Cinkle went out of business many years ago and parts are not available. The engine controls are a Telflex unit mounted on a large stainless bracket to the side and ahead on the wheel. It works fine, no issues whatsoever. However, I have found a used Edson dual lever control set and before I tear apart my pedestal, thought I'd reach out and ask if anyone had ever installed Edson on a Cinkle or seen it done. Contacted Edson and they responded with "Cinkle parts do not fit Edson and vice versa". Have attached pic of the Edson unit I have found. Haven't bought it yet, just doing my research.

You’ll have to know how your controls work and you may have to fab parts but as a fabricator I can say you can make almost anything work with a bit of ingenuity. Though how pretty it is will depend on how you go about it.

I will say that looks a lot like an Edson pedestal but is NOT the same. Off the top of my head, the bolts A that go into holes B are quite different. There are two of them. On both Edsons I’ve had apart there are four bolts that pass through the throttle housing and the plate into the pedestal top.

Good luck with your quest.

I have an old Cinkel pedestal for parts that dates back to that era.
If you want/need some used parts, I can provide for low cost plus shipping.

Re: Does anyone know, before I tear my pedestal apart?

I just rebuilt the Edson pedestal on my Catalina 30, and these definitely look like Edson parts.

I am guessing Cinkel used existing Edson parts where they could.

What Cinkel MAY have done is bolted the pedestal guard support ring (Item "E" ? ) to the pedestal base using the two bolts "A" into holes "8", then attached the engine control assembly to the support ring with four different screws.

This may have involved installing some type of threaded insert in the support ring, to accept the four screws.

On the Edson, the retaining bolts/screws are 1/4"-20.

Cheers.

Thanks for all your info , especially GordMay. I am guessing best is that I pull it apart to see what exactly is there and then ask more questions. I will let you know.
