Edson Clutch and throttle control

Our new to us boat is very stiff to shift. We have determined that the problem is at the pedestal. Once removed the ring from the pedestal, it had to be placed in a vise to be able to move the controls at all.

However, we cannot determine what to do about this. After two days of cleaning and moving, we finally got the pieces apart, but replacements do not seem to be available. The only replacements we have seen are for the handles themselves or the entire ring. Is there an intermediate solution?

Fine, I will call the manufacturer. I must hurry: my husband has planned how he is going to sand out the plastic bits EVEN THOUGH I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS!

Re: Edson Clutch and throttle control

I had the same problem. There is a small screw on the inside of the pedestal mount on the top of the metal housing. I backed that out & put some SuperLube synthetic machine oil (like 3 in 1) in the hole and then worked the lever back and forth a lot. Needed a lot of pressure at first. Also took some 800 wet/dry and worked the areas of the assembly I could get to with oil & wet dry. That improved things to the point where I can shift okay.

Good Luck!

Re: Edson Clutch and throttle control

Edson is sending new bushings, as we have already removed everything else, with much tribulation.

Hopefully a better corrosion fighter than what we were using last weekend will free up the brake shaft, though.
