Re: Engine hard to start question

If that is your only problem then count yourself lucky. No big deal as long as no other problems occur.

Opening the throttle to start the engine may be a normal situation. If you have no other issues leave it. Work on the hard to push throttle and shift cable yourself.
I may just be you need to override the governor to start.

Re: Engine hard to start question

I'm guessing you are northern hemisphere and possibly this started happening at the coolest time of the year. Do not fret, 2GM engines usually need a bit of throttle to start, even in moderate temps.

Re: Engine hard to start question

I have a 2gm engine and found out this season the engine was not winterized this year because the boat has been on the hard for a second year and was done two years ago when it came out of the water is that going to be a problem starting this year

My engine starting procedure..
Put engine in neutral, open throttle 1/3rd turn on ignition, when pre heat buzzer cuts out start engine.. let run as is for a few minutes to warm up.
While that's going on run a couple of checks.. water, charging etc..
These are not car engines to just start and go.. though many treat them as such..

Re: Engine hard to start question

As someone else stated, it's covered in the manual. Yanmar GM and QM series engines don't have glow plugs. The manual says to open the throttle part way (about 1/3) and start it. once it starts slow the engine speed back down.

In the heat of summer it should start without moving the throttle, but anytime the temperature drops below 60-65 degrees, it's best to give a bit of throttle.

No one in my family will even treat a weed eater like that, everything needs to be warmed slowly before use and allowed to cool prior to shut down.
However our little Yanmars are also lawn mower and garden tractor motors, nothing special.
