Thanks for all the help on this thread, I shall refer back to all the info once I start work on the Bukh again.

Cheers all, Justin
Cool. Choose the height of the bracket wisely. Very important. Too high and the prop sucks air or comes clear out of the water when the boat pitches. Too low, and you risk pooping the outboard in a following sea, and maybe make it hard to steer with the outboard tiller. Seal your bolt holes in the transom very carefully so you don't get water intrusion into the fiberglass or even worse, into wood. I would say that properly installed, at this point an outboard is an excellent investment, and a good backup even when the diesel is in good health.

You are gonna get this. Beware of the temptation to take shortcuts. Bukh didn't take them, when they made your engine. But the previous owner did, when operating and maintaining the engine. You see how that worked out.

Re: Engine seems to start but rolls to a stop

Good show Justin! A little break to clear your head.
As others have said-normal troubleshooting assumes one fault. Your engine had/has several. It was run mercilessly without maintenance until some components clogged & stuck-causing other faults. None of the faults discovered resulted in complete condemnation of engine, but the overall poor condition hints toward possible removal from boat & teardown.I feel there is still the possibility of repairing it as is,but the crud in it may keep coming back to haunt you in future.
Look forward to hearing of future doings.
Cheers Len
I am going to post some other YT videos that may be useful in future.
I am not suggesting you act on them at this time.

Remember to prep the Bukh for long-term storage as appropriate. Otherwise you could be back at square one.

Just an update!
The yacht is now in Inverness at its new mooring.
The outboard was great even in a rough sea. Now to get the Bukh working again! Plenty of time now.

Thanks for the update. It will be much easier now you have good access to the boat / engine. Is it far to travel from home?
