Floscan alternatives for Diesel engines

Today, I was on the verge of ordering the Floscan 6505 and I paused for a moment and remembered an important feature my gasoline Floscan (5532) lacked. The Diesel version (from the outside) is a carbon copy of the gasoline version with respect to features and appearance. One thing I wish the Floscan unit had was the ability to tell me how many gallons I have remaining. Since I couldn't find it on the web site, I called Floscan to see whether they offered a model that included such features only to be told they can't offer the feature due to liability concerns.

This is for a Perkins 4.108, which is rated at 48 horsepower and has a maximum fuel burn of 3.6 GPH.

I did some research and this is what I came up with:
  • Faria makes a product with the features I want, but it is only available for gasoline systems.
  • Northstar discontinued offering fuel management products.
  • Neither Garmin's nor Lowrance's fuel flow meters work with Diesel.

Any ideas as to what path I could take as an alternative to Floscan?

Re: Floscan alternatives for Diesel engines

I use hours of use and I soon learned my usual fuel burn per hour. Diesels send un used fuel back to the fuel tank so their fuel consumption is more difficult to measure than gosoline engines that don't do that.

Yes, Diesel fuel flow meters are slightly more complicated because they need to measure the difference between supply and return line readings.

I'm less interested in learning about fuel consumption rates and more interested in learning my engine's most efficient operating ranges.
