Actually you are both right and wrong. The issue is actually the hot water goes through the heatexchanger too fast and does not have a chance to disappate the heat. Then too hot a water goes back into the engine and it comes out hotter still and the whole thing goes into a form of thermal runaway.

Yeah! I guess that would be like running across hot coles with your bare feet. If you go fast enough you won't put out the coles.

That would really be fast, so fast that the water wouldn't even touch the heat exchanger.

Instead of 15 gpm to cool why not use 5 gpm.
