Long story short.

There is a difference between POWER boat props and SAILBOAT props. A powerboat is maximizes for forward thrust, a sailboat is more of a compromise for the reason you noted.

An amazing number of boats I see have the wring style of prop.

You can see the difference when looking at it. A power prop is more asymmetrical, a sail prop functions much the same in forward and reverse.

Once tou have had the “ah ha” moment you will look at props differently. I casually looked at your photo and I see nothing overly wrong. Still I would take a wander around the yard to look at the different types of props, how symmetrical they are to forward and reverse rotation.

When folks do a prop calculation they MUST assume a prop type or profile. Two props, with identical numbers, and both in good condition, will perform differently depending upon their symmetry.

I suspect you have the proper shape,15 minutes wandering in the yard should prove it.
