It might, I have started farm and construction equipment with a gasoline soaked rag many times.
Only thing is, if your using starting aids, be real sure to not use your glow plugs. Ether can go off when it hits the glow plugs even when the piston is not in the correct position, you want compression to set the ether off, not a glow plug.
Many, many of the first GM auto Diesels literally had their heads blown off when ether hit the glow plugs, in that car as in almost all automobiles, glow plugs are automatic, you have to remove the fuse if you don’t want them to work.

Best method is a tiny shot after the engine has been turning over for a couple of seconds, then another tiny shot if needed to get it smoothed out.
You can use a remote starter switch if single handing, or the old screwdriver trick

Assuming it's the correct value fuse and not something that someone put in by mistake or because he didn't have the correct fuse, the correct advice would be to find out why the fuse is blowing and correct the problem.


Fuses exist for one reason, to prevent fires. Bypass the fuse and bad things can happen
