Heat Exchanger Anode change

I have always changed my Perkins 6354 heat exchanger zinc anode when I remember ... Every few years. Is there a standard period to change these things ? All the handbooks and manuals say its there but not when to change.. Just curious what everybody does !

What condition is the zinc anode in when you remove it?
If it is more than 50% gone then I’d suggest that you “remember” to service it more often.
Zinc’s are far less costly to replace than the heat exchanger they are supposed to be protecting...

Re: Heat Exchanger Anode change

Every couple of years? Damn it. Ive changed mine yearly and it was gone. Granted I have a Beta 50, and the zinc is on the smallish side compared to others which I have seen. And I have not been very religious about flishing with freshwater everytime I leave the boat behind for extended periods. This will be part of my new list of decomissioning events.

My new zinc exchange policy is probably going to be to check and probably change every six months.
