Hello folks, newby here

I am not a boater but have a question about a propeller that was donated to my St. Vincent dePaul society. I looks new and EXPENSIVE. Can any body shed any light on this for me?

It is about 18" across and the blades swivel, here are some pictures.
TIA for any help.
Terry

To me it looks old. It's either is a prop that is adjusted out of the water or one used with a inner and outer shaft that allows controlling of the pitch while running. There may be names and numbers stamped into the metal. Maybe under the stern cap.

Looks like an old veriprop that would adjust pitch with rpm of engine . ( this is from a real Newby. That's my last name) lol

Re: Hello folks, newby here

Thank you gents just trying to figure out what to do with it as it looks pristine, The blades move without a hitch and like they are moving in heavy grease. I sure don't want to sell it for scrap.

Yes, that is an older Variprop self-feathering propeller. Don't sell that for scrap!
That's worth a nice piece of change. Check here for the price on a 17" prop: Getaprop Variprop

Thank Y'all, that seems too expensive to be a real donation.

It is now in the hands of the Sheriff's Dept. If not claimed in 12 months we will get it back and then figure out what to do with it.

I've bought various odd parts like that on Ebay. If you get it back, put it up there and likely someone, somewhere will pop up and buy it.

Thank you Sir, we have a fellow that does selling for us on eBay and Craig's list. I will give it to him if it goes unclaimed.
