Help newbie with deciphering yanmar engine type - 3GM30C

Hi all!

Our new-to-is engine is giving us endless problems (of course!) but I wanted to look up more in the manual, but am not sure which to look at. Specifically, the “C” at the end of the model number is throwing me off. I’ve seen 3GM30, 3GM30F, 3GM30-YEU, 3GM30F-YEU, but no manual that I can find just for 3GM30C. I think it’s from 2001-ish, the engine number is around 005xx.

I know a lot of stuff is going to be the same between models, but the replaceable parts (like the v belt that is getting consistently shredded) I want to make sure are all correct, since even our engine guy was telling me we had a 3GM30F, which isn’t what our manufacturers label says!

Please help explain these differences so I can get the manual to start getting this engine functional.

Re: Help newbie with deciphering yanmar engine type - 3GM30C

My recollection is that their marine engines all used 3GM30 base engines and that the options were with or without heat exchanger. With heat exchanger the engine designation was 3GM30F and without, that is directly cooled by sea water, the designation was 3GM30.

If it has a radiator cap where you can top up the coolant it is a 3GM30F as your mechanic says.

Even though I know exactly what my engine is, I still find it difficult to figure out precisely which replacement parts I need, especially if I am buying non OEM belts, impellers, etc.. It is best to just find which ones fit and make sure to keep reordering the same thing.

I believe that the "C" is identical to the "F" except the "F" connects to a conventional transmission and the "C" connects to a saildrive.

F = Fresh water cooling
C = Sail-Drive

D.... is fitted with KM3A gearbox.
L..... is the generator model.
E..... is the European built engine, mostly sold in the US and the parts vary slightly from the norm so the “E” must be included to get the correct parts.( “YEU” could appear on the id plate.)
