Help replacing this water seal on Perkins 4108/Jabsco 3270

How does one remove this seal on the waterpump? If I need to remove the shaft, how do I do that? I was hoping to see a C clip on the bearing/oil side but I dont and I don't want to start whacking it with a hammer if something is holding it in.

Re: Help replacing this water seal on Perkins 4108/Jabsco 3270

I've done this a couple of times.
You'll need a couple of wood blocks to suppot the pump about 1" above a hard surface. Plus a rubber mallet and a socket larger than the dia of the seal.

Support the pump on the wood blocks-impeller side up.
Tap shaft with mallet to drive shaft out of body.
Use a bar or screwdriver to tap the seal out of the pump so as not to score the seat.
Put seal in freezer for 20 min and pump in oven-at 250' for 20 min.
Set seal in opening, set socket on top of seal and tap in "straight" with mallet to seat.
Put pump back in oven at 250 for 20 min and and shaft itno freezer.
Turn pump, open end down and use mallet to drive pump thru seal until all the way seated.
The biggest challenge is making sure the seal is square and flush in the seat.

A bit of a challenge the first time you do it, but you will really feel like you have accomplished something.

Thank Bob. This ended up being way easier than expected. Shaft tapped out quite easily and everything went back in easy as well.
