Help: Volvo Water Pump

Does anyone know of an alternative source for a Volvo water pump bearing?
The proprietary bearing is very expensive.
Can't find an alternative to the original bearing #2096RSH
Int Diam 12.68 mm Outside Diam 23.90 mm
Thanks.

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

Almost any bearing supply can help you - maybe online. You just need a sealed bearing of the correct size with water proof grease.

Adrian,
Can you give some more info.
What Volvo engine?
Is it the water pump">raw water pump or a coolant circulating pump
Any ID markings on the pump cover plate (if raw water pump)

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

Bearing supply people here in Victoria say the Volvo bearing size is a proprietary item - no alternative sizes available. Any suggestions for an internet supplier?

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

Remember, Volvo never made a single bearing. It does like every body: Buy it from bearing distributors..
Bring your own bearing to a bearing distributor(they are everywhere) like Timkens or SKF, and they will find for you de right replacement, probably of a much better quality, for a realy cleap price. Volvo has the bad habit of exegerating the price of its parts...

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

For a 37' older boat, the Volvo engine is most likely an MD17. You can tell if it has three separate cylinders outside the block. If it has the original pump, it is most likely a Johnson F4B pump. There are Johnson distributors everywhere and you can buy a known p/n. I've bought pumps/from a dist in Seattle. I would guess a dist to be in Victoria or Vancouver..

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

assuming it is the freshwater pump i'm afraid you are going to have difficulty. i have just been down that road with my 2003 and could not find an alternative solution. there are some on ebay etc but from volvo the price is ridiculous. finally the local boat yard here in fiji (baobab marine, brian smith) managed to come up with a work around using standard seals and it works great ($80 fjd).

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

I just bought a complete service kit on Ebay for the pumps on my MD2030. It came with a new shaft, lip seals and bearings, Cir Clips, spacer, impellor and even new screws for the cover plate.

Search "Volvo Water Pump Repair Kit"

Re: Help: Volvo Water Pump

No problem sourcing bearings and seals for either coolant or raw-water pumps on my Volvo 2003T even down in Mexico. Minor issue finding seals with SS springs, but simply pop the non-SS springs and replace with appropriate size O-ring.
