Don't rear down the injection pump by yourself. It needs to be done at a specialized shop. The fuel pump you can do, that is the round device on the side of theinjection pump

Ok, for a start... cap off all the open connections on that injector pump and lift pump.

hhmm.. might be having second thoughts on the tear down.. more of a clean up.. might try ceaning up the barrels and blow some air through. but won't actually remove to many parts. Just looks very intricate
Am wondering how much a new injection pump costs ??

A fuel injection pump is likely the single most costly component of a diesel engine. They are very precision devices, delivering fuel to the injectors at incredible pressures. I think some of this dialogue has involved the term “ fuel pump” when what was meant was “injection pump.” If you mean “ fuel lift pump” that’s the device that lifts fuel from the tank and supplies fuel to the injector pump. There is a vast difference. The lift pump on many diesels is often a third party item, usually electric these days, that delivers fuel at a pressure only slightly above atmospheric. They generally last almost forever, are rarely repairable, and are fairly cheap when they do fail. As stated, the injection pump is a whole ‘nother critter. Few cruisers have the tools, skills, or shop facilities to repair injector pumps.
But back to your lift pump. Have you disconnected the feed to the injector pump from the lift pump to confirm a good solid flow while cranking? And if so, have you opened the banjo nuts at the injectors to check for same? If you’re getting fuel flow, that really points to injectors, or severe compression loss because of ring or valve failure.

a replacement injection pump cost between $2000-3000 and I hope you marked EXACTLY the pump's orientation before you removed it as its installation dictates the timing on the engine... Get that wrong and...
