Honda 8HP 4 stroke fuel filter

Hello I'm having probkems with the above outboard (fires up but dies after a few seconds) and want to start by replacing the fuel filter. Do I need to get the original part from Honda or will a generic like the ones sold at West Marine will do the job? Many thanks to all!

Generic one will do the job IMO but go to an auto parts place rather than any place with "marine" in the title

Where is the fuel filter? If it’s the one under the engine cowl you May be stuck with OEM.
However I concur get a generic one to mount externally. I had an extra Racor and used that, but no reason not to use a generic automotive one.
