Re: How Long is Fuel Good ?

I second Don's idea. Each year in June I buy ten gallons of gasoline and stash it in my shed. If I don't get hit by a hurricane by November I put it in my car and dilute it with fresh gas. I've been doing this for years with no damage to the car yet. After five months in my shed the gas smells pretty stale.

Re: How Long is Fuel Good ?

I used to be a big proponent of pouring old gas into the pickup truck until the truck told me, in no uncertain terms, that it didn't like it.

Any gas I have left by October goes right into the truck, and if I use the outboard in the winter months I pour the extra into the truck immediately. I don't let fuel sit in the outboard's tank until May, at the earliest.

Thanks, everybody! I just put the older fuel in my Jeep and got new fuel. It is hard to find fuel sans ethanol, though. Happy sailing!
