How to choose Yanmar engine parts?

Hi guys i will be replacing some components of my 4jh3-hte yanmar diesel engine, although I'm not understanding something when choosing the parts on the yanmar website..

i see many parts are the same but have different codes, example:
I need to get the water pipe number 16 but I see there is also the number 16-1 and 16-2 but I don't see any difference..

How do I go about choosing the right one?

Thanks in advance!

Re: How to choose Yanmar engine parts?

Good morning. I also have a 4JH3-HTE. In the diagram you show for fresh water cooling, there are two different versions of the engine shown. The diagram at the bottom left has a large air cooler on the side of the engine opposite the injectors, and the one shown in the upper right does not. My engine has this intercooler, so for my engine I would buy the water hose 16-2.

I do not know the actual difference between these two hoses, but Yanmar must have given them different part numbers for a reason. If they are interchangeable then you will find this out if you buy from an aftermarket supplier.

Cheers!

Steve

Re: How to choose Yanmar engine parts?

Thank you steve! cool to see someone else with the same engine, yes for some pieces there is a different drawing of the engine but for many pieces such as this gasket (18) and (18-1) there is no difference that i can see, this is just an example, but I've found it many times where there isn't a clear difference between the parts.

Thanks again,
Alessandro

Re: How to choose Yanmar engine parts?

When there is no apparent difference it reflects a newer version of the part. So 18 would be the original / obsolete and 18-1 the new version.

You Yanmar dealer should be able to verify.

With my Yanmar, the dealer uses
the serial number to get the part number

The parts diagram shows parts for different versions of the same engine on each page. Use your serial number and follow the instructions in the first few pages of the parts diagram to ensure you get the correct parts.

The serial number of the engine is the key to correkt part in combination withthe part No. Any supplier or dealer will refer to your serial No.
