use domestic oven cleaner from the supermarket, works great use rubber gloves as is cuastic.
acid will cause the metal to corrode if not properly rinsed with fresh water

Re: How to clean exhaust manifold

I cleaned out the exhaust manifold on my MD7A by soaking it in citric acid. Took a few days to loosen up the hardened deposits. I also used a coat hanger into the passageways to help break it up.

Domestic oven cleaner is mostly just Lye.

If you can find lye crystals it might work better.

Re: How to clean exhaust manifold

Google "electrolytic rust removal" Used it myself for an exhaust elbow. Safe, easy, VERY effective.

PS: put the sacrificial part (not the elbow) inside a perforated PVC pipe or similar to electrically isolate it from the inside of the elbow, and insert this into the inside of the elbow. Significantly improves the process,

Re: How to clean exhaust manifold

What you describe is very unusual for a standard Beta exhaust manifold.

If the manifold or 'elbow' is made of aluminum DO NOT soak in acid or lye or oven cleaner (which is lye). It will destroy it.

I recommend that you contact a Beta dealer or Beta directly.
