Impeller vanes

Hello all,

I am new on this forum and thus this is my first post.

Purchased my boat in July this year and opend the impeller-room for the cooling for the first time. I have a question concerning the vanes of the impeller.
Is it normal that the two vanes on the bottom of the picture are faced in the opposite direction like on the attached picture?

I would expect they are all in the same 'direction'?

Thanks a lot,
Matthias

Not a problem. Just an anamoly of how the engine stopped. They will flip back around as soon as it turns. Impeller looks good.

They should be facing in the same direction. However, if you turn the engine over, I think they will align themselves properly. If you're really concerned, you can take out the impeller and reinsert with proper alignment. One way to do that is to put a hose clamp or a wire tie around the vanes with proper alignment and slide the impeller into the pump body.

And when you stop the engine again the final “rock” at the end will reverse a blade or two.

They’re flexible and meant to do this.

Perfectly normal.
Always a good idea to carry at least one spare.

I agree they'll realign by themselves, but on my current and previous engines all the vanes were always oriented in the proper direction...

I’m afraid you’ve had anomalous engines.🤪
