Isuzu Marine Engine

Hello I am looking to purchase a sailboat with a Isuzu Engine. It is a 3 cylinder 40 HP engine built in approx 1978. Anyone familiar with these engines wrt reliability, and parts availability. Can't seem to find a Isuzu marine dealer anywhere in US. Thanks

Re: Isuzu Marine Engine

Try Hamilton they carry old Isuzu parts, and can get them from Japan if needed. I can't speak to your specific engine, but I have an 80s model 6BD1, that started life as a truck engine and was converted to marine by MER out of Seattle and I love it. After a recent trip with mine including a 4BD1 for my genset, I averaged 1.875 GPH, consumption, turning the main at 1600 rpm and the genset running a blast freezer on my 10 ton hold.
