Kanzaki tranny for Yanmar

Ok...here's my new dilemma. Transmission went south on our yanmar 2gmf 1984 engine. Marina took it apart to repair and can't find a particular part; it's not made anymore. The part is a "cover" #177088-02091. As of now we have missed 6 weeks of sailing for this. I'm ready to buy a used tansmission if necessary! But of course if anyone of you well informed sailors know where I might get this part or a whole new tranny.....it would make my day. We were planning to sail south this fall but this teaches me not to make plans when you're sailing

What is the tranny number? I've got a 93 2GM20F, 500 hrs. on the clock, with tranny available. Might think about splitting them up.

Afrakes, is the 93 compatible with our 1984 2gmf? Is it a 13 hp? What, if compatible, is your asking price for the whole kit and kaboodle?

Have a KM2P with 2.2 gearing. Came off a 3gm30 with less than 500 hours. Switched transmissions to get lower gearing to swing bigger prop. $1,000. Shipping should run about $80. Cannot ship till we get home on the 20th.

Thanks so much Roverhi! Will have to find out if the km2p will replace our km2a with a 2.52 ratio. Somewhat desperate here so we may take you up on this.

I can't confirm compatibility between the 84' and 93'. I'm torn on whether to sell or not. Just overheated the M-12 on my 28 and am having it examined to see if I harmed it. It ran fine after the event but I want the oil tested and a few other diagnostics done to be sure. When I had the 93' for sale last year I was entertaining $3,500.00.

Hp on the 2GM20F is 16. I just checked the service manual. Gear ration on my KM2P is 2.62. The 2GMF is rated at 13 hp. The ratio range of the KM2A is 2.21, 2.62 or 3.22. The same range is given for the KM2P so Yanmar must have offered all of those. The manual only lists the KM2A tranny as compatible with the 2GMF.

If it will help, can throw in a 13x12 3 blade prop bored for a 7/8" shaft if that will help. That prop was ideal for the 2.2 transmission driving a 13,000# boat with 3GM30. The 2.2 gearing didn't work with the Sailor prop I went to.

I would take the cover that is damaged and see if a machine shop could fashion a replacement before I would go to extreme of replacing the transmission.

Any of the above units should work fine
