Key West: Used Outboard Source

Looking for recommendations for businesses that sell used outboards in Key West. I need something in the 3 - 6 hp range. I only see one on Craigslist available. I'm new to the area and google didn't give a lot of help. Thanks in advance.

Go into any sale skeptically with all private sellers. I've never experienced so many shady and unethical sellers on Craigslist as in that area when buying everything from cars to outboards.

I ended-up buying an outboard from a posting listing it as 2014. When I went to pick it up, the serial number and condition showed that it was in fact a 2006. Luckily, I figured it out before handing over my money and was able to split the agreed upon price in half. I still wish I would have just cursed at him and walked away instead of rewarding his behavior.

Try craigslist farther up the Keys. If you don't have a car you can take the KW bus as far up as Marathon for $4 one way.

Or maybe pawn shops in Key West. There's one by the movie theater.

Yea not many low power outboards on craigslist for any of the Keys. I'll ask around the pawn shops. I was hoping to get a referral to a local company that does repairs that might carry some used units.

I can't speak for the Keys but the small engine repair shops around here seem to always have one for sale if you ask.

There are quite a few for sale on the Miami Craigslist. It would be worth it to rent a car for a day if you don't have wheels.

Perhaps the big marina on Stock Island would be a good place to look/ask-you've probably already checked that out.

Not that hard to take the ferry over to Bahamas from Lauderdale or Miami and spend a day or two and pick up a nice new 2 stroker.
