KM3P - remove output shaft nut

I'm trying to service a KM3P transmission, just swapped out the one on my boat and I thought I would rebuild the old one. However, I can't get the nut off the output shaft so I can remove the shaft coupling and take the output shaft out of the housing. It's a left hand thread, I believe.
I've built a jig to hold the coupling in the vice and I have put a 30mm impact socket on the nut, with a 3ft breaker bar, can't shift it. I ground away the nut where it was indented onto the shaft. Anyone done this successfully?

Try one of these, but not before determining the thread direction positively...

I tried a 3/4 inch air impact, and a 3/4 inch drive 3 foot long breaker bar.

Re: KM3P - remove output shaft nut

According to the service manual, http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...6_SEklBmp6h-Qr

it is a left hand nut and should only be tightened to 73 ft lbs, and then staked.

A 3/4" impact should have spun it off easily, even without removing the 'stake'. If it is rusted on an ox-acetylene flame may be needed to heat it quickly enough to remove it. You'll have to replace the nut though.

It's not rusted, I suspect someone welded it on. We took a lot of that if with a dremel but it still won't move.
