Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

There are several folks making replacements for Yanmar elbow out of stainless steel. They sell on eBay and are WAY cheaper than the Yanmar replacement.

They seem to be high quality stuff. Take a look.

Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

I would stay with the same configuration of the exhaust mixing elbow, just replaced one on a friends boat, prices all over the map, I found best price on e-bay went with SS,

Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

I had the same general issue: OEM galvanized mixing U pipe which got crudded up with rust over about 16 years. I am sure that I could have had it "boiled" at an engine shop to remove the corrosion, but I sort of fell for a polished SS version on eBay and I am very happy having made the change.

The new elbow really looks great in the engine space, and I imagine it will outlast the engine, if not the boat.

Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

sounds like the same elbow that was on our Yanny in our Hunter. It blocked up with a carbon buildup at the junction of the water and exhaust. Caused engine to blow black smoke and raw fuel out due to back pressure. would not run at more than idle. All caused by line that got wrapped around prop in the middle of the night and went unnoticed for hours. Anyway, the cure was pop (easy said) off the elbow and chip out the carbon blockage. Cured the problem.

Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

As always, you all are a great help.

Conclusion: I'm keeping the riser setup, ordering a new stainless steel U elbow. I don't yet know if the old one is shot. It doesn't really matter. If I can clean it, well and good; I'll put it in the spare parts box. If not, I'll have its replacement on hand.

Thanks for all the advice.

Re: Mixing Elbow on Yanmar 3GM

I recently bought a new OEM Yanmar one for my spares bag on Amazon for $180. Mine is the 2GM but can't imagine there's a big difference. Order one and if you don't need it you have a spare for when you do :-) Kit Yanmar 104214-13521 Exhaust Elbow & 104214-13580 Joint Genuine OEM https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072BKFFNG..._4XpjAbN8G271B
