You have to press the stop switch BEFORE you turn off the key.

If you have done that and it still will not stop--you have a loose wire or a faulty start switch

I always thought that stopping a diesel was the number one reason to have a small dog or cat on board ...

Jeez, it would've done a helluva lot of hours by now if the OP never got to read the replies in this thread.

Anyhoo, I can vouch from personal experience that sticking your hand over the air intake of a screaming 30hp diesel engine will, in fact, stop it without destroying your hand in the process

I killed the engine by looking to the manual and finding the manual kill in the engine.
