Exclamation NEED Help with Diesel

I have a farymann one cylinder engine for my genset. It shut down due to over heating issue. Seals on impeller water pump">raw water pump were bad. Had the pump rebuilt, started it today now I have water in oil. Did I damage to engine or could it be from bad rebuild on pump, or could the water have gotten into the oil from bad pump before I replaced it. There was no water in oil before it shut down, as far as I know.

First change the oil. See if it comes back. If it does, you probably warped the head and will need a mill on the head and a new head gasket.

Re: NEED Help with Diesel

As mason suggested, first change the oil and see if the problem still exists.

I understand this engine is raw water cooled and although I am not familiar with the exact water pump arrangement, it is quite possible that the faulty seals on the raw water pump allowed water ingress into the crankcase.

Changing the oil and running again will at least point you in the right direction and is unlikely to cause further harm.

Re: NEED Help with Diesel

at the least you have blown the head gasket

change the oil 2 to 3 times and take an oil sample for spectro analysis to see if there is water in it

I have the same engine

Re: NEED Help with Diesel

Shutting down due to overheating takes a pretty severe case of overheating. If not the seals on the raw water pump, you may be getting off lightly with a head mill and head gasket.

Re: NEED Help with Diesel

First thing I suspect is water pump seal. If not then head gasket. Like others said change oil then test run and see what happens. Good luck and hopefully its the seal.

Re: NEED Help with Diesel

I believe the Farymann uses (at least for some engines) a direct drive water pump - meaning that one side of the drive is in oil and the other is in water. There are two seals (with small springs) that keep the water and oil separate.

Ask your rebuilder if this is the case and if they replaced both seals.

If so, just change the oil a few ties - the problem may be left over from before the rebuild.

If the seals are good, you may have a leaking head gasket.

There may be a chance that the ORing on the water pump is shot. Been there and done that. Good luck
