Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

So moving on from the oil issue.....

I cant get the bugger started. I rebled the fuel system and am getting fuel out of the bleed valve on the filter, and the bleed valve on the return line but getting nothing out of the injector lines, either at the injectors or at the injector pump itslef.

With a certain sense of foreboding I suspect I know the answer, but does this mean the injector pump has packed up and needs a rebuild?

It doesn't sound like you know how to bleed the system properly. If you are having trouble you need to go step by step. Air can be trapped in a number of places and if you skip many points you can have trouble.

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

Possibly not but Im going by what the manual has said which is,
Check the raccor filter is full.
Loosen the nut on top of the fuel filter and hand pump the primer on the fuel lift pump until pure fuel comes out the top of the filter. Tighten the nut.
Loosen the nut on the top of the return line and hand pump the primer until fuel flows, tighten nut.
If engine still doesn't start, loosen the injector lines (one at a time) and pump the hand primer until fuel flows. Repeat for each injectors.

Start engine.

Have I missed anything obvious?

Just a note here... while you are at it open the drain taps for water and close and resume your procedure. Check for water... It's the same trouble...

NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

What does it use for a fuel shut off? It’s a solenoid, make sure the solenoid isn’t stuck and fuel is turned off.
I doubt your fuel pump is bad, possible, but unlikely.
Check for a fuse or relays, my Nexgen uses a standard 30 amp automotive relay, if it’s loose, engine will not run.
Usually low oil pressure switches are bypassed for start, so it’s not likely a bad low oil pressure switch.

It may even have a run circuit breaker

Not according to the owners manual I guess. Those were pretty simplistic trouble shooting instructions. It's almost always air, somewhere.

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

Do the re-bleed first, air can be a problem alright.Does your generator have a decompression function? Before I blamed the injection pump I'd loosen the lines to the injectors put the decompression on & operate the starter & see if they spray. If you have no decompression facility you can remove the injectors & reconnect them to fuel lines & crank the starter & check that they spray properly. Keep clear of the spray, it's dangerous.

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

I took off the fuel solenoid connected it up to a battery and its working fine, put a multi metre on the three fuses in the control box and they are also fine.

Will look into more detailled instructions on bleeding a fuel system.

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

Now measure for voltage on the fuel solenoid when the generator is being cranked.
Does the solenoid connect to an external mechanical device? In other words can you look to see if it moves when the start button is pushed? If so than of course that is your check, not measuring voltage.

The solenoid only has one port so can I connect the ground to the body of the Genny or does it have to be to the solenoid itself?

This is amazing help, btw, thank you.

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

And roughly what should the voltage be?

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

I’ve never seen anything but battery voltage.
Where are you located? Can you give an NL service center a call tomorrow?

Re: NL Genny cylinders full of oil.

Good, have model number and serial number handy of course.
They ought to be able to get real specific with you, where I can only poke around with general troubleshooting
