How can you say the engine was 30 years old.
M12 was referring to the size of the bolt.
It was a modern V**** own build engine, less than 10 years old.
You know what they say about assumption.

Considering none of us know where "here" is. I looked up the part on the VP factory web site. For UK delivery it's 25 GBP.

I mean The Netherlands. Given the current rates, there is quite a price difference. If it would be $12 -> around €8,- I would never asked. The earlier proposed LF3335 is around €5,-

Re: Oil Filter Equivalent for Volvo Penta MD2020d

Hi,
I haven't found an unified alternative part topic on this forum and didn't want to register on other boards, so I post here.
I have managed to find all filter alternatives for my Volvo Penta MD17D engine. As I live in Lithuania, our market is mostly consists brands of SCT and Filtron. My guess this applies to the whole region around Poland and Baltic states.

Here's the part numbers:
The 3581078-7 CAV insert > Filtron PM 819.
The 829913 Fuel Filter > UFI 24.304.00.
The 834337 Oil Filter > Filtron OP 546. (WARNING: this filter is taller, make sure you have enough space)

All filters cost around €6 in local shops, but I guess can be bought even cheaper online.
Good luck.

I did check if there is a valve, and there is one inside.

I found this site Cummins Filtration - Catalog - Catalog Map and checked the number 3581621. The answer I got from the side was saying "No cross available at this time." This somehow confuses me with the LF3335 part number.

The reason for looking for an equivalent is basically the price. BTW, my engine is 8yrs old ;-)

George, I just checked the Cummins cross reference site, and for the 3581621 the Fleetguard equivelent comes up as LF17476, that was using Belgium as the region.
I paid about £5 for the oil filters last year as opposed to about £20 for the VP one.

12 bucks for an oil filter is not outlandish. At that price I would pick the Volvo filter for the piece of mind that you got the right filter.

Re: Oil Filter Equivalent for Volvo Penta MD2020d

Just for future reference of others, on my Volvo MD2020's I use either FRAM or Luber Finer filters. Both are readily available here in Central America whereas over priced, manipulatively controlled Volvo branded products are not.

Some of my cross refs below:

Oil Filter
Volvo 3581621
FRAM PH2825

Secondary Fuel Filter
Volvo 861477-8
Luber Finer FP588F

Raw Water Pump Impeller
Volvo 876689-1
Johnson 09-1026B

50 bucks here in Lithuania. 5 bucks for the alternative. 10 times man...

On the down side, during the replacement of CAV insert, my already cracked glass bowl has broke completely. Already found a replacement:
LUCAS CAV 296 TYPE 7111-403
