Oil in raw water pump

While disassembly of impeller and water pump">raw water pump I notice what seems to be black oil inside pump.


Looking for advice.

Sounds like you need to replace the seals.


Here's an example:

If this is direct engine driven (i.e. not via a belt) then yes, you have bad seals. There are usually two with a weep hole between them. Since water can also get into the oil with this issue, check your oil and see if you see water. If the oil has a grey look, that's water.
