Oil Pan 4/108/Westerbeke 40

As part of my engine refurbishment, I need to replace my existing oil pan. Someone torqued it down so hard the pan flange is very distorted. Any recommendations where I might find a pan in decent condition?

BIG IF you can find a replacement of a scrapped one. Better option is to fabricate a secondary flange to go over the original oil pan flange to spread out the load, tweak the pan back into shape as best you can and reinstall with properly with permatex. Chances are you'll be buying an entire scrapped 4108 if you do find one close to you.

Hadn't thought about knocking it back into shape-its pretty deformed through the prior owners attempts to slow the leaks. In fact he had some flats about 2" long under the bolts in the corners to spread the force of the bolts. Knocking it straight will be a last resort-having a spare motor cheap might be worthwhile too

Parts4engines used to sell a spreader ring for the timing cover to do the exact same thing. Basically a 3/4” wide ring that spread the load evenly over the flange. It would be easy and relatively cheap to make one for your oil pan more so if you’ve got it out on the bench already.

Try ebay. You can sometimes find good used parts on there for Westerbekes. Also, Westerbeke carries a lot of parts for discontinued engines. For instance,I can get a brand new oil pan for my Westerbeke 21 for around $400.
