Diesel Fuel.
More electrical power.
If it breaks while at sea you are not leaning over the transom to try and fix it.
If the OB doesn't have electric start you are not leaning overboard to start it.
If the OB is out of tune or having an electrical problem starting it is a biyatch.
Hauliing the OB up and down when transitioning to sail is a PITA
The question of the prop coming out of the water in rolling seas does not have to be discussed or debated.

Inboard diesel on everything but sport/race boats

Re: outboard vs diesel inboard

I have just gotten back my old Haida 26 with a frozen up Farymann 10 hp diesel . I will have an ob for the time being but ask that question of repowering affordably for using this as a cruising boat. I have a Bukh 10 diesel I am getting used, and could repower with it. What about the Florida Keyes sailor who has on the internet shared a design for a stainless outboard mount that allows the ob motor to slide up and down on the frame to lift up as high as the stern pulpit. Any thoughts on this kind of ob mount design for getting the motor up and out of the wet spray and wave zone fast, and ability to easily drop the ob down with this? TIm
