Re: Parts for Kubota block engines

One of the downsides of the Beta engines is that outside of the USA and Europe, the dealer network is quite thin. Even in a yachting meca like Martinique, parts for a Beta would draw a blank stare. Yanmar, Volvo and Westerbeke all have distributers there and in other major boating centers in the islands.

I know, some wise guy is going to say, Just go to the local kubota tractor dealer. Except, the ONLY one of those in the Caribbean basin is in Puerto Rico. Here is a life-pro-tip: Although there are exceptions, places with lots of long range cruising boats visit often tend to NOT have a lot of large farm tractors!

It's not that you can not get parts shipped in, you can. But you will be on your own. The local diesel mechanics are not likely to have the ability or knowledge to source the parts for your engine. If you consider the Caribbean your cruising ground, it's a point to consider if you are repowering.

This will matter to some people and not to others, but it is not often mentioned as an issue.

Actually, there are Kubota distributors in Martinique, Guadalupe & Guyane. Kubota construction equipment dealers are just about everywhere. If you have a parts book for your particular Kubota engine, they don't even have to look it up. You just point to what you want in the book.
