Pearson 39-2 Engine Replacement

Our Yanmar 3HM35F engine has thrown a rod and needs to be replaced. Since this was a low production engine does anyone know of a replacement that can fit in the existing galley location without modifying the cabinetry? I have checked the engine section and there is no information relating to this situation.

If at all possible replace with the same model. If you switch to a different engine, it is not just the cabinetry that will have to be changed. The through hulls, hoses, cables, electrical connections, and engine mounts will all be wrong. This is a potential nightmare that comes up on the forum frequently.

tkeithlu makes a good point. Swapping with the same engine generally offers a number of advantages. However I would check with Beta Marine. They are very good at customizing engines to fit existing motor mounts, transmissions, etc. May not work but worth a call. Their customer service is excellent and the engines are top of the line.

Re: Pearson 39-2 Engine Replacement

The original poster has a 50' boat with most likely an undersized engine that has been run hard until it threw a rod. Best he installs a larger engine/prop that can be run at something less than constant maximum power and it will prove more durable with more reserves for when needed.

The engine is not for the Gozzard but rather a Pearson 39-2 as stated in the title of the post.

Contact yan mar ‘s east coast distributor mack boring and ask for their marine recreational engines guy. Yanmar has dimensions of all their engines and if you are lucky they may even have a color drawing comparing dimensions of your old w whatever new one might fit. They sent me such a drawing when i was repowering my 1 gm 10::and wanted to know if the new 2 cyl ym would mfit which it clearly would not , alas. But the drawing they sent w old 1GM dimensions in red and new ym in blue was pretty spectacular.
