This is an excellent point as well. Inspect the head for cracks and follow the instructions for removal when removing head bolts, little increments in proper order.

Re: Perkins 4.108 Oil Exhaust maybe hot?

Hey guys,

so i was on a Maschine shop and they guy told me that's he also thinks there are broken pistons rings, an overhaul should may cost 3500. This is a way to much for us, so we try to do most of the stuff by our own.
I think we can do everything to change and see the head gasket, change piston rings should do the Maschine shop.

Question,
the Rocker shaft, we can put it off in one piece or? Is an adjustment necessary?

Wich adjustments are necessary if we rebuild everything?

Here are two good rebuilds, hope the photos work in the first link as they’re not showing up on my phone right now.

I would pull the head first and take a look at your cylinder walls before tearing into the lower end. Re reading your post about exhaust in the oil it very well could be a bad valve stem as a culprit (cheap). What makes him think the rings are shot? Kind of sounds like he’s looking for work IMO. Pull the head, valve train and check all the tolerances. Here is the workshop manual with all the tolerances:
