I don't know if it applies to you but some time ago I had a similar problem. Engine ran fine but when I reduced rpm to change gears it died. After being towed in the mechanic told me it was the oil pressure sensor.

At low revs it was not seeing pressure and would shut down engine. There was plenty of oil but I learned a go around. Depending on sensor, either make it open circuit by disconnecting the wires or closed circuit by shorting the two wires. One way or the other you bypass an automatic safety shutdown.

Besides the other suggestions you might want to investigate what can cause an automatic shutdown.
