Perkins Perama M35?

I came across this engine in one of the boats I am interested in. AFAIK it's identical to the Volvo MD2040B, which rings the green alarm...

Anyone has experience how reliable are these and how easy/affordable is to get them serviced? Is it possible to use Caterpillar parts?

I had a VP 2030B for 11 years. Never missed a beat and was one of the smoothest and quietest engines I've ever own. No repairs during that period, regular maintenance only.

But your concern about Volvo Penta parts are real.

I keep reading horror stories both on the green engines and worse, their customer support - in case things go south. Apparently these engines are identical to Caterpillar 3013, maybe it's not that difficult to get help in case...

Well, the base engine is a Perkins/Shibaru industrial engine block, and marinized by Perkins, so why not source your parts thru Perkins?
