Perkins Prima m50 oil?

Hi all,

Wondering if i could get some opinions on oil for a perkins prima m50 with around 350hours on it.

I have a large drum of Penrite hpr diesel 5 - semi synthetic 5W-40 that i use for my other vehicles. Given this i was wondering if it would be suitable for the perkins...

Thanks in advance.

Re: Perkins Prima m50 oil?

I personally use straight 30 weight but that’s old school , i’m not hung up on oil as a religion , If it’s a good recognized brand go ahead and use it keep an eye on your oil pressure and your Consumption , should work OK , It’s not a brand I recognize where I live , probably wasn’t very helpful Best I can do

Perkins recommends 5W-40 API CI-4 for that engine

ThAt penrite is CI-4 also so you should be good to go

Re: Perkins Prima m50 oil?

Actually Perkins recommends 15 W 40 however I don’t think it’ll make that much difference , lower number is better in cold temperatures 05W 40 would be for freezing temperatures or below zero temperatures whatever your oil should be just fine
