Perkins Sabre engine sometimes stopping due to flying diode fault - Warning.

Has anyone else had this problem with a Perkins Sabre engine?
It started by one day stopping just as if I switched it off..I falsely diagnosed it as a faulty on off switch and replaced it.

The problem went away for a couple of days and then surfaced again, luckily , I mean , really luckily, I was just anchoring at the time with lots of room and not in close quarters with some unfriendly objects. It just stopped… so I completed the anchoring and then ...
I decided that it was not the switch. On closer inspection, behind the instrument panel , I removed the flying diode that was connected to the switch and all worked as normal again.
I have now replaced the diode.
But here’s the worry…when will the flying diode next become faulty??
I could just remove it, but it’s there for a reason, probably to protect from engine starting spikes.

Has any other Perkins sabre owners had this problem?
