Re: PNW Yanmar engine service

We are in Mexico now - but for the 6 years when we were in the PNW on our current boat and the 5 years for our previous boat we always used Auxiliary Engine & Generator Service which is located adjacent to Shilshole Marina. Not cheap, but everything they have done for us has worked out well.

Re: PNW Yanmar engine service

Check with Tacoma Diesel. I'm not sure what kind of head work they do in house. They started farming out a lot of the machine work several years ago. When I rebuilt my Cummins 855 they sent me to Cam Grinders in Seattle for all the block work

For that rebuild I got reman heads from NW Casting Service in Portland. They're not great, but they work. The cooling passages for the water rail are badly pitted and I have a hard time keeping them sealed. They're now called Pilot Engines, not sure if quality improved

Not to sure I’d clean up a head without barrel home rings and wrist pins.

I saw a 4 door Holden Beater with a Chrysler small Hemi in it. I imagine Australian mechanics are amazing Folks. I limped a Toyota van around there.

Re: PNW Yanmar engine service

I’ve rebuilt a 3 cylinder Yanmar by replacing parts and honing the barrels.
Cost $800.00 for a new head delivered and 240$ for gasket set. We did a complete bearing on the block new Welch plugs $200.00
New pistons rings and wrist pins set of 3 $700.00.delivered. I sent the injectors in 150$ cleaning and tip. I told my pal up front it’s easier to buy a replacement engine for $4500.00 from Yanmar.
