The biocide kills the algae which is on the tank itself. It doesn't break loose until you go bashing around for a while and that's when dual filters are awesome.

I used to deliver boats from So Cal which mostly ly is just a big lake and once around Pt. Conception, all that dead algae would break loose. Fun times.
