It says the same thing as the Maxprop manual = leave in neutral. Maybe I will need to engage forward only at high speed (if that proves to be effective for the problem I have).

Did a rough down wind English Channel crossing in a Nic 55 which bumped started every time we surfed down a wave. That's really quite scary as the boat accelerates and then the diesel fires up and adds the rush to the bottom of the wave. Skipper wouldn't listen and insisted the engine be stopped and put back in gear whilst we told him to leave it in neutral.

To close the thread...
Yesterday I sailed 40 NM at 8-9 kts with 1.2m cross waves (quite a bit of jerking) leaving the saildrive in Forward gear and all was fine. That is what I will do from now on.
