Propeller rough price

Quick question. We need a RH prop to replace our old LH prop on our cavalier 39 when the engine us replaced. Fixed 3 blade 16 inch is what's been calculated. No room for a fancy folding prop. What is a rough ball-park price I should budget for this?

Depends on which country you're in. In US or Canada $600 should do it,

Re: Propeller rough price

I bought a used 16" RH for $450 and had to spend a couple hundred to get it re-pitched.

Since your yacht is a Cav I assume you are down under. Here in Queensland I like Porters or Olds engineering for props. Usually you take the shaft in as well so they can match the shaft taper and keyway excatly to the prop boss.

Cheers

The boat is in Auckland and I'm having a bad run with the craftspeople up here... not that it's unexpected but having a spate of overpriced work

You are in the land of the kiwiprop. Might be worth getting a price from them? Nice bit of kit with some good (and some bad) reviews.

Re: Propeller rough price

I think I paid around $700 for 1200mm of 1" shaft with all the machining done. The fixed three blade prop was going to be around $900? so I decided to go with a feathering Max prop which was a lot more expensive. (Don't tell the wife). The machinest matched my prop taper, cut the keyway and also put a keyway in for the engine coupling. Its a pity you are not here in Maryborough. Robert at Olds engineering is an excellent tradesman and always takes the time to explain and show what he is doing.
Cheers

We're headed South in January with a marina berth in Havelock sorted ( we're Chch based) So looking forward to being able to deal with Southerners :-)[emoji4]
