Question about a Merc 9.8 outboard

I have I believe a late 70 or early 80's Mercury 9.8 thunderbolt 110 outboard short shaft motor. It's been a year since I tackled the motor so I forget the year and need to go to it to check the serial number. I'd like to pick a few minds before I order parts or even just sell it as is. I got it running by replacing a few wires from the points to the coil as the original insulation does dry up and crack. It runs just is not running at full throttle. Carbs are clean already pulled them. I'm almost thinking it needs new points and maybe a new capacitor. Any ideas? I believe the issue is with the ignition system. I'm a young guy and points issues is new to me.
