Question about seal for Johnson/Yanmar 10-24509-01 raw water pump

When fixing my leaking pump I checked the seal size on a few pump vendor sites and they were listed as: Johnson- Lip Seal, 24 x 12 x 7 mm Thick.

I found some advice online to buy this one instead because it's easier to get and has a SS spring.

When I installed it the outside lip isn't flush with the body of the pump - it sticks out by maybe 0.75mm.

The original seal was flush.

Now I see another site claiming that the Johnson seal is 1/4" which is only 6.35mm.

Has anyone replaced the seal in one of these pumps? What seal did you use? Was it flush with the pump surface?

Thanks,
Andy

Nevermind - I think I'm asking the wrong questions

I have both seals removed, measured them with digital calipers, and they are the same. So the 1/4" versus 7mm descriptions don't seem relevant.

Plus now I'm not sure that the shaft is in good enough condition to seal anyway, so back to the drawing board.

Thanks for looking anyway.

If your shaft is simply scored you can use a "Speedi-Sleeve" to restore it to usable condition. I've had one in a water pump">raw water pump for several years and it seems to be more resistant to scoring than the original shaft was.

Good luck!

Jim, thank god you got that sorted, for a moment there I thought you were having an attack of the Donalds.
Another vote for speedi-sleeve
