Quickie impeller question

Hi. Embarrassing question.....
How much water (or in my case rtv after winter) Might I expect to spill upon removing cover? Would it just be residual in the housing or can there be a complete emptying of any water that's sitting in the block above the level of the pump? On my circa '2020 Westerbeke 71C the housing seems to be on the aft side of the pulley assembly fairly mid-height on the engine.

I'm just hoping I'll spill a cup and that's it, and not have the bulk of the 3 gallons of RTV antifreeze spill out.
Thanks in advance.
Howard

Re: Quickie impeller question

I just changed out the impeller on our Beta 60 raw water pump last weekend. The pump location on our Beta 60 looks to be about the same. Maybe a cup of the temporary coolant drained from the pump body. Yours could be more or less. In my case I'm not concerned becuause the bulk of my exhaust system is still protected and there is no freeze damage potential in the pump area becuase it's drained.

Re: Quickie impeller question

That looks like the seawater pump, so opening the cover shouldn’t drain any coolant from the engine block. The engine block and most of the heat exchanger are isolated from the seawater side of the system.

Just make sure the seacock is closed.

And while you are at it, clean the strainer.

Re: Quickie impeller question

Ok thank you all. That answers my concern. And yes it's the seawater side and of course, only RTV dripping out. We're past any freezes now in NYC, but I still was uncomfortable not knowing what to expect.
Sorry for the upside down images. I recall that happening in prior posts though I'd caught them in preview. Wish I knew why that happens.
Thanks again and for so prompt.
